Otter.ai alternative for Mac: Brieva vs Otter

Otter records meetings by sending its Notetaker into Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls as a visible guest participant, or from its desktop app without a bot, and transcribes on Otter’s servers. Pro is US$8.33 per user per month billed annually or US$16.99 monthly, with a free tier of 300 minutes a month.

Pick Otter if you need a phone app, a shared team workspace, or a free tier for light use. Pick Brieva if the recording must never leave your Mac, you do not want a guest in the participant list, you want it to work offline, and you would rather pay US$25 once than a subscription. Brieva runs locally on Apple silicon and has no account at all.

Fireflies.ai alternative for Mac: Brieva vs Fireflies

Fireflies’ notetaker joins calls from your calendar, or its desktop app records system audio without a bot; either way the audio is processed on Fireflies’ servers, and the product is built around pushing meeting data into CRMs and team tools. Pro is US$10 per seat per month billed annually (US$18 monthly), Business US$19 (US$29 monthly), with a free tier.

Pick Fireflies if your team lives in a CRM and wants meeting data sent there automatically. Pick Brieva if you want your meetings kept private on one Mac, with no cloud, no bot and no per-seat subscription.

Fathom alternative for Mac: Brieva vs Fathom

Fathom is free for individuals with unlimited recordings and records by joining the call as the Fathom Notetaker, an external participant that Teams organisers sometimes have to admit. Premium is US$16 per user per month billed annually or US$20 monthly.

Pick Fathom if free matters most and a bot in the call is fine. Pick Brieva if your meetings are confidential enough that they should not be uploaded anywhere, even for free; Brieva processes everything on your Mac and works offline.

tl;dv alternative for Mac: Brieva vs tl;dv

tl;dv joins scheduled calls as a visible participant and records video, transcript and summary to its cloud, with translation into 30 or more languages and a desktop app that can record with or without a bot. Pro is US$18 per seat per month billed annually, Business US$29, with a free plan.

Pick tl;dv if you want video recordings, clips to share, or translated transcripts. Pick Brieva if you want audio-only notes that never leave your Mac, paid for once.

MacWhisper alternative: Brieva vs MacWhisper

MacWhisper is the closest cousin: a Mac app that runs local models, paid once (EUR 64 for Pro, with a free version). It transcribes files you drop in, records app audio, makes subtitles and dictation, and supports 100 or more languages. For summaries it can use local AI or, if you choose, cloud services such as OpenAI.

Pick MacWhisper if you transcribe files, videos or many languages, or want dictation. Pick Brieva if you want meetings to appear from your calendar, a brief built from the emails and documents you drop in before the call, live transcription with a running summary during it, formal minutes after it, and a guarantee that summaries never go to a cloud service. Brieva verifies English, French and German; MacWhisper covers far more languages.

What we did not compare

Transcription accuracy and summary quality, because we have no independent measurement and would not trust our own; support quality; and features Brieva does not have at all: mobile apps, a web app, Windows, video recording, shared workspaces and CRM integrations. If you need any of those, one of the tools above is the better choice.
